Job Summary:

At Avet, the Security Officer administers, coordinates, and evaluates security programs that support the strategy, policies and standards established for the physical safety of all employees and visitors to the organizations facilities and the security of property and assets.  The Security Officer will compile data and analyze the results of access control, inspections and daily logs.  The role may coordinate or assist with investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other officials.  The Security Officer may also be responsible for all controlled substance tracking in all Avet Facilities.

Reporting Relationships                                           

  • This position has no direct reports.

Essential Functions:

  • Control and monitor access by verifying the business rationale of vendors, contractors and guests before permitting entry.
  • Maintaining the safety and security of company property, corporate assets, and the welfare of employees, visitors, and vendors.
  • Take a proactive approach to monitoring the buildings and surrounding areas of the complex, and conduct preliminary investigations on any safety or security-related incidents as deemed necessary.
  • Being able to provide clear, specific, and calm instruction to people when an emergency arises to help minimize confusion.
  • Lead creation of employment identification badges at the commencement of a new hires employment.
  • Support DEA activities in coordination with Engineering and the Head of Manufacturing.
  • Perform uniform inventory reconciliation on monthly basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Specialized Skills and Knowledge:                                                                 

Associates Degree – required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent – preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years or more in a Security environment/Industry
  • DEA experience a plus
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office suite

Physical Demands/Factors:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; use hands; talk; and hear.  The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop; kneel; crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision.
